Our Promise to the Planet

Lumber Doesn't Have to Cost the Earth

Every year, millions of board feet of quality lumber end up in landfills. We intercept that waste stream — salvaging, processing, and redistributing wood that still has decades of life left. When you choose reclaimed lumber, you reduce deforestation, lower carbon emissions, and get wood with character that new-growth timber simply can't match.

How It Works

Simple Steps, Serious Results

Whether you're buying reclaimed lumber for your next project or selling surplus wood you no longer need, our process is straightforward, transparent, and fast.

For Buyers

1

Tell Us What You Need

Email us, fill out our online quote form, or walk into our Beverly Street yard. Share your project details — species, dimensions, quantity, and timeline. Our team will advise on the best material for your application and budget.

2

We Source & Prepare Your Lumber

We pull from our existing inventory of reclaimed and new stock, or source specialty material from our network of salvage partners across Idaho. Every board is inspected, de-nailed, graded, and processed to your specifications.

3

Custom Processing If Needed

Need specific dimensions? Tongue-and-groove profiles? Kiln drying to a target moisture content? Our in-house milling and kiln facility handles it all with turnaround measured in days, not weeks.

4

Pick Up or We Deliver

Come browse and pick up from our yard during business hours, or schedule delivery anywhere in the Treasure Valley. Our fleet handles residential driveways, commercial loading docks, and job-site drop-offs with equal reliability.

For Sellers

1

Contact Us with Details

Send us photos and a rough description of the lumber you want to sell — species (if known), approximate quantity, condition, and location. Email or our online form both work. We respond within 24 hours.

2

We Assess & Make an Offer

For larger lots, we visit your site to inspect the material in person. For smaller quantities, photos are usually sufficient. We provide a fair, transparent offer based on species, grade, condition, and current market value.

3

We Handle Pickup & Transport

Accept our offer and we schedule pickup at your convenience. Our crew handles all the loading and transport — you do not need to deliver anything to us. We come to you with the right truck and equipment for the job.

4

Get Paid, Feel Good

You receive payment promptly, and your lumber goes on to a second life in someone else's project instead of rotting in a landfill. You save on disposal fees, earn money for material you no longer need, and contribute to Idaho's circular economy.

Featured Projects

Where Our Lumber Ends Up

Every board that passes through our yard becomes part of someone's vision. Here are some of the project types our lumber has brought to life across Idaho.

Residential Renovation

Historic Farmhouse Restoration — Meridian, ID

Reclaimed Douglas Fir beams, salvaged pine flooring

A 1920s farmhouse on five acres needed structural beam replacement and floor restoration. We supplied matched old-growth Douglas fir beams that replicated the originals in species, dimension, and grain character. Over 1,200 board feet of reclaimed pine was milled to tongue-and-groove for the main floor, preserving the home's historic authenticity while meeting modern building codes.

Commercial Interior

Farm-to-Table Restaurant Interior — Downtown Boise

Reclaimed barn wood, live edge walnut bar top

A new restaurant on 8th Street wanted an interior that told a story. We sourced weathered barn siding from a Canyon County dairy farm for the accent walls, milled reclaimed cedar for the ceiling treatment, and provided a 14-foot live edge walnut slab for the bar top. The entire interior was completed with zero new-growth wood.

Furniture Making

Custom Dining Table Collection — Eagle, ID

Old-growth fir, reclaimed oak

A local furniture maker commissioned a series of twelve dining tables for a high-end residential development. We supplied hand-selected old-growth fir planks with tight grain and minimal defects, each kiln-dried to 7% moisture content and planed to 2-inch thickness. The resulting tables showcased grain patterns that are simply unavailable in modern plantation lumber.

Community Project

Community Garden Raised Beds — Boise, ID

Reclaimed cedar, salvaged redwood

We donated and discounted over 800 board feet of naturally rot-resistant reclaimed cedar and redwood for a neighborhood community garden project. The lumber was used to build 24 raised planting beds, a tool shed, and perimeter fencing — all from material that had previously served as fencing and decking on residential properties scheduled for renovation.

Commercial Construction

Mixed-Use Development Lobby — Nampa, ID

Reclaimed timbers, new FSC-certified cedar

The architects specified a combination of massive reclaimed timbers for the lobby's exposed post-and-beam ceiling structure and FSC-certified new cedar for the reception desk and wall paneling. We provided 6x12 Douglas fir timbers salvaged from a warehouse demolition in Twin Falls, each one inspected and certified for structural use.

Residential Outdoor Living

Backyard Deck & Pergola — Star, ID

Reclaimed cedar decking, new pressure-treated framing

A homeowner wanted the character of reclaimed wood for their deck surface but needed new pressure-treated lumber for the substructure to meet code requirements. We supplied both — 600 square feet of reclaimed cedar decking boards milled to 5/4 thickness, and the full framing package in new treated pine. The result was a deck that looks like it has been there for decades, built on a structure rated for another fifty years.

Customer Stories

What Our Customers Say

The best measure of our work is the experience of the people we serve. Here is what builders, woodworkers, designers, and homeowners across the Treasure Valley have to say.

We framed an entire custom home in Eagle with their reclaimed Douglas fir. The structural grading was spot-on, the moisture content was exactly where it needed to be, and the price was thirty percent below what we would have paid at a big-box store. Boise Lumber is our go-to now.

Brennan V.

Eagle, ID

I run a one-man furniture shop and source all my hardwoods from Boise Lumber. The character in their reclaimed oak and walnut is something you simply cannot buy off a rack. Every slab tells a story, and my clients notice the difference immediately.

Nico Aldridge

As an architect, I specify reclaimed material whenever I can because my clients want authenticity. Boise Lumber makes it easy — they provide provenance documentation, moisture data, and LEED-eligible sourcing information that I can include directly in my specification packages.

Maren Kessler

Architect, LEED AP

Boise, ID

We were renovating our 1950s ranch house and wanted a reclaimed wood accent wall in the living room. The team at Boise Lumber helped us pick the species, milled it to tongue-and-groove, and even gave us installation tips. The wall is stunning and the whole experience was surprisingly affordable.

Callum & Linnea W.

Homeowners

Meridian, ID

I had a barn come down on my property outside Kuna and was going to pay to have the debris hauled. Called Boise Lumber on a whim — they came out, assessed the lumber, and bought the entire lot. Saved me a fortune in disposal fees and the wood went to good use. Could not ask for more.

Thatcher Boone

Property Owner

Kuna, ID

We built our restaurant around their reclaimed barn wood. The accent walls, the ceiling beams, the hostess stand — all sourced and milled by Boise Lumber. Guests constantly ask where the wood came from. It gives our space a soul that new materials never could.

Anara Singh

Restaurant Owner

Downtown Boise, ID

I teach woodworking at a local high school and Boise Lumber donates offcuts and surplus material to our shop program every semester. The students get to work with real hardwoods instead of just pine, and they learn about sustainability in the process. Incredible community partner.

Everett Crane

High School Shop Teacher

Nampa, ID

I have been a finish carpenter for twenty-two years. The old-growth fir I get from Boise Lumber has grain density and stability that you cannot find in anything grown in the last fifty years. It machines beautifully, it takes stain like nothing else, and the clients love knowing it is reclaimed.

Service Area

Serving the Treasure Valley and Beyond

Our home base is at 2755 S Beverly Street in Boise, but our reach extends across the entire Treasure Valley and well into southwestern Idaho. We deliver lumber to job sites, homes, and workshops from McCall in the north to Twin Falls in the south, and from Mountain Home in the east to the Oregon border.

The Treasure Valley is one of the fastest-growing regions in the country, and with that growth comes enormous demand for building materials — and enormous volumes of construction and demolition waste. We operate at the intersection of those two realities, turning the waste stream into a supply stream and helping Idaho build sustainably during a period of unprecedented expansion.

For customers in the Boise metro area — including Meridian, Eagle, Star, Nampa, Caldwell, Kuna, and Garden City — we offer same-week delivery on most orders. For locations outside the metro area, we run scheduled routes and can accommodate special delivery requests for larger orders. No matter where you are in our service area, you get the same quality, the same pricing, and the same personal service.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions we hear most from first-time customers, contractors, and anyone curious about reclaimed lumber.

What is reclaimed lumber, and is it safe to use in construction?
Reclaimed lumber is wood that has been salvaged from existing structures — old barns, warehouses, factories, residential teardowns, and other buildings. It is absolutely safe for construction when properly processed. We inspect every board for structural integrity, remove all fasteners, check for insect damage and rot, and kiln-dry material as needed to eliminate any pests and bring moisture content to appropriate levels. Our structural-grade reclaimed lumber meets the same load-bearing specifications as equivalent new stock.
How does reclaimed lumber pricing compare to new lumber?
Our reclaimed lumber is typically 20 to 40 percent less expensive than equivalent new lumber from big-box retailers, depending on species, grade, and processing requirements. This is because our raw material cost is significantly lower — we are not paying for logging, primary milling, and cross-country transport from managed forests. We pass those savings directly to our customers. Our new lumber lines are competitively priced to match or beat retail pricing, with additional volume discounts available for contractors and commercial accounts.
Do you offer delivery, and what area do you cover?
Yes, we operate our own delivery fleet across the entire Treasure Valley and southwestern Idaho. For the Boise metro area — including Meridian, Eagle, Star, Nampa, Caldwell, Kuna, and Garden City — we offer same-week delivery on most orders. We also run scheduled routes to communities across southwestern Idaho, from McCall to Twin Falls. Delivery fees are based on distance and load size, and we provide exact delivery quotes with every order estimate. Job-site, residential driveway, and commercial loading dock deliveries are all available.
Can you mill lumber to custom dimensions?
Absolutely. Our in-house milling facility includes a planer, moulder, resaw, and multiple saws that allow us to process lumber to virtually any dimension you need. Whether you need custom width and thickness, tongue-and-groove profiles, shiplap milling, or resawing thick slabs into thinner boards, we handle it on-site with turnaround times typically measured in days. Our dimensional accuracy tolerance is plus or minus 1/16 inch on custom cuts.
What species do you carry?
Our reclaimed inventory regularly includes Douglas fir, pine (Ponderosa and white), cedar (Western red and Alaskan yellow), oak (red and white), walnut, maple, redwood, spruce, and hemlock. Availability of specific species depends on our current salvage pipeline and changes regularly. Our new lumber lines include FSC-certified Douglas fir, cedar, pine, and select hardwoods. If you need a specific species that is not currently in stock, we can often source it through our network of salvage partners and suppliers within one to two weeks.
Will you buy my surplus lumber or salvage material?
Yes, we actively purchase surplus lumber, construction leftover materials, and salvage wood from property owners, demolition contractors, renovation crews, and anyone else with usable wood they no longer need. Contact us with photos and a description of the material — species if known, approximate quantity, condition, and location. We respond within 24 hours and can usually arrange an on-site assessment within a few days. We handle all pickup and transport. You get paid for your material and avoid landfill disposal fees.
What does kiln drying do, and do I need it?
Kiln drying reduces the moisture content of lumber to a target range appropriate for its intended use — typically 6 to 8 percent for interior finish work, cabinetry, and furniture, and 12 to 15 percent for framing and structural applications. The process also heat-treats the wood to 56 degrees Celsius, which eliminates any insects, larvae, or mold present in the material. Kiln drying is essential for interior applications where dimensional stability matters, and it is required if your lumber will be used in environments with climate control. For exterior structural and landscape applications, air-dried material is often sufficient.
Does reclaimed lumber qualify for LEED credits?
Yes. Reclaimed lumber from Boise Lumber qualifies for LEED v4 credits under MR Credit: Building Product Disclosure and Optimization — Sourcing of Raw Materials. Using reclaimed material contributes points toward LEED certification by demonstrating responsible material sourcing and waste diversion. We provide sourcing documentation and material data sheets that architects and project managers can include in their LEED credit submissions. Many commercial projects in the Treasure Valley have used our reclaimed stock specifically to achieve their LEED targets.
Can I visit the yard and pick out my own boards?
Absolutely, and we encourage it. Our yard at 2755 S Beverly Street in Boise is open for walk-in browsing during business hours — Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and Saturday from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM. You are welcome to walk the stacks, inspect individual boards, and hand-select the exact pieces you want. Our team is always on-site to answer questions, offer recommendations, and help you load your vehicle. If you are looking for something specific, email us ahead of time and we will pull it from inventory before you arrive.
What is your return policy?
If the lumber you receive does not match what was described, quoted, or expected, contact us within 7 days. We will make it right — whether that means replacement, reprocessing, or a full refund. No arguments, no fine print. We have a structural integrity guarantee, a moisture content guarantee, and a dimensional accuracy guarantee on all processed material. If a board we graded fails inspection on your job site, we replace it at no cost and cover the delivery.
