What We Buy

We Accept a Wide Range of Lumber

If it's solid wood in reusable condition, there's a good chance we want it. Here are the categories we actively purchase.

Reclaimed Barn Wood

Weathered siding, hand-hewn beams, and interior planks from agricultural buildings. These are among our most in-demand materials for accent walls, furniture, and architectural features.

Structural Timber

Beams, posts, joists, and rafters salvaged from residential or commercial teardowns. Old-growth Douglas fir, true-dimension lumber, and heavy timber are especially valuable.

Dimensional Framing Lumber

Standard 2x4 through 2x12 framing stock from remodels, overruns, or cancelled projects. Must be free of rot, mold, and excessive warping to qualify.

Hardwood Boards & Planks

Oak, maple, walnut, cherry, and other hardwoods from furniture shops, flooring removals, or woodworking operations. Shorts, offcuts, and narrow widths are accepted.

Pallet & Crating Material

Clean, uncontaminated pallet stock and industrial crating lumber. We accept both heat-treated (HT) and untreated material in reusable condition.

Decking & Fencing

Cedar, redwood, and pressure-treated lumber from deck and fence tear-outs. Pressure-treated material is accepted for recycling only — it is not resold for residential reuse.

Condition Guidelines

What Qualifies as Buyable Lumber

We evaluate lumber based on structural integrity, species value, dimensions, and overall condition. Not every board qualifies for resale, but even material that doesn't meet our buying standards may qualify for our recycling program— so it's always worth reaching out.

Our graders assess each piece individually. Some surface checking, nail holes, and weathering are expected in reclaimed stock and won't disqualify material — in many cases, these features add character and command a premium with buyers who want authentic reclaimed wood.

We Accept

  • Lumber with nail holes — we de-nail in-house
  • Weathered and patina'd surfaces
  • Minor surface checking and end splits
  • Mixed species lots (we sort and grade)
  • Lumber with paint or finish (evaluated case by case)
  • Rough-sawn and skip-planed material
  • Odd dimensions and non-standard lengths

We Decline

  • Lumber with active rot, mold, or fungal damage
  • Termite or insect-infested wood
  • Material contaminated with chemicals or hazardous substances
  • Engineered wood products (OSB, particle board, MDF)
  • Plywood and laminated veneer products
  • Lumber shorter than 3 feet (unless hardwood)
  • Severely warped, twisted, or structurally compromised boards

How It Works

Selling to Us Is Simple

01

Contact Us

Call us, fill out the form on this page, or email photos of your lumber. Include approximate quantities, species (if known), and your location. We respond within 24 hours.

02

Free Evaluation

For larger lots, we send a grader to your site at no cost. For smaller quantities, you can bring samples to our yard at 2755 S Beverly St. We assess species, grade, dimensions, and condition.

03

Get a Quote

We provide a written offer based on current market value, species demand, and material condition. Pricing is per board foot for dimensional lumber and per piece for specialty items like beams.

04

We Pick Up & Pay

Accept our offer and we schedule pickup — usually within 3–5 business days. Our crew handles loading and transport. Payment is issued the same day we receive the material.

Pricing

What Determines Your Lumber's Value

Reclaimed lumber pricing depends on several factors, and values can vary significantly depending on species, condition, and current demand. Old-growth Douglas fir beams from a 19th-century barn, for example, may command ten times the price per board foot of standard pine framing stock from a recent remodel.

We base our offers on the same wholesale pricing data that professional lumber dealers use, adjusted for the condition and processing required. Our goal is to pay you a fair price that reflects the real market value of your material — not a lowball offer designed to maximize our margin at your expense.

For large lots (over 1,000 board feet), we often pay premium rates because the volume justifies dedicated transport and processing. If you're managing a demolition project or clearing a property, it's worth calling us before the dumpster shows up.

Species

High-value hardwoods (walnut, cherry, white oak) and old-growth softwoods (Douglas fir, redwood) command premium prices. Common pine and spruce trade at standard rates.

Dimensions

Wider boards (8" and up) and longer lengths (10' and up) are worth more per board foot. Heavy timber beams are priced per linear foot or per piece.

Condition & Grade

Clean, straight lumber with minimal defects grades higher. Weathering and character marks can add value for decorative applications.

Volume

Larger lots (500+ board feet) receive better per-unit pricing. We can also arrange ongoing purchase agreements for contractors with regular surplus.

Accessibility

Material that is easy to load and transport (ground level, sorted, accessible by truck) costs us less to handle — and we pass that savings on to you.

Common Questions

Lumber Buying FAQ

How quickly can you evaluate my lumber?

For photos submitted online, we typically respond with a preliminary estimate within 24 hours. On-site evaluations are scheduled within 2–3 business days of your initial inquiry. Walk-in evaluations at our Beverly Street yard are available during business hours — no appointment needed for small quantities.

Do I need to know the species of my lumber?

No. Our graders are trained in species identification and will determine what you have during the evaluation. That said, if you know the history of the lumber — where it came from, the age of the structure, or any documentation — that information helps us assess its value more quickly.

Do you buy lumber with nails and hardware still in it?

Yes. We have industrial de-nailing equipment and handle hardware removal in-house. Boards with nails, screws, lag bolts, and other fasteners are accepted. However, material with embedded metal (like old fence posts with wire grown into the wood) may be declined due to the risk of sawmill damage.

What is the minimum quantity you will buy?

There is no hard minimum for walk-in transactions at our yard. For pickup service, we generally require a minimum of 200 board feet or a full truckload of pallet material to justify the transport costs. Smaller quantities can be dropped off at our facility during business hours.

How do you handle payment?

For walk-in transactions, we pay by check or direct deposit the same day. For pickup orders, payment is issued within 48 hours of receiving and verifying the material at our yard. Commercial accounts with ongoing purchase agreements can opt for net-30 invoicing.

Do you buy pressure-treated lumber?

We accept pressure-treated lumber for recycling purposes only — it is not resold for residential or food-contact applications. CCA-treated lumber (common in pre-2004 construction) is accepted at reduced rates due to the additional handling requirements.
